How to claim free games on Steam

Every now and then, a paid game becomes free to keep on Steam for a short window, usually from a day to two weeks. Add it to your account during that window and it’s yours. See what’s free right now on our Steam page.

Step by step

1. Open the game’s Steam page. You can use the Claim on store button here.
2. Sign in to your Steam account.
3. In the promotion box, click Add to Account.
4. Confirm. The game now shows up in your Library for good, and you can install it anytime.

Three different kinds of “free” on Steam

• Free to keep (limited time). You add it to your account during the promotion and keep it. This is what we list.
• Free weekend. You can play for a few days, but the game isn’t yours afterward. We don’t list these.
• Free-to-play. The game is always free, with no deadline. We don’t list these either.

Free DLC

Many Steam giveaways are DLC (extra content). To use it, you need the base game in your account. In our lists, DLC is labeled DLC / item.
